Fluid Pump Maintenance
There are two styles of washer fluid pumps that are normally used to deliver spray impingement to clean the pumps: side mount pumps and vertical barrel mount pumps.
The difference in these two pump styles effects the operator in only two ways: cleaning the pump inlet filter and pulling the pump from the unit for repair.
Side mount pumps use a cylinder screen as a pump inlet filter. It screws into the base of the pump housing. In order to unscrew it and clean it, the operator must reach down into the water and unscrew it from the base, then clean or replace it, and then screw it back into location.
A vertical barrel mount pump utilizes a flat inlet pump screen. This pump screen has a handle that allows the operator to pull the screen up and out of the tank. The screen is they cleaned and slid back into position.
A side mount pump can only be removed when the tank is empty, while the vertical barrel mount pump can be removed with a forklift while the tank is full.
