A bag needs to be changed out whenever there is a difference of 10 psi between the reading on the guage prior to the filter canister and the reading on the guage immediately following the filter canister. If a unit has a PLC or an Effector switch then this 10-pound differential will be sensed electronically and shut down automatically.

During the course of running production, an observant operator will be able to learn from experience when a bag will need to be changed and will take a break time, lunch time or a slow time in order to perform this bag change over so it does not shut down the manufacturing process.

If a bag is allowed to remain in the canister when the differential pressure is greater than 10 psi, then the pump will become starved of water and could cavitate and eventually burn the pump motor out.
