Conveyor Maintenance
A flatwire conveyor belt will stretch over time. The correct tension on the belt should be checked each week. This is due to part weight, belt speed, parts jamming and just normal wear. The tension of the conveyor belt should not be too tight, but there are hang up issues that can result if it is left too loose.
Special note: Do not ever perform any adjustment to the conveyor until the machine is powered down and off.
As a rule of thumb, the belt tension is correct when an operator can lift the belt ¾” from the roller.
Adjusting the take up bearings on the load end can tighten the belt to the specification necessary. To this the operator must:
- Locate the chain adjusters on the end of the conveyor
- Loosen the jamb nut
- Make adjustment
- Measure to be assured both side are tracking evenly
- Measure from the adjuster to a point on the shaft brace
- When distances are equal then tighten the jamb nut
