Chip Basket Maintenance
Each chip basket should be cleaned out after every shift. This is a preventative maintenance necessity. In fact, based on the load of soil, chips, and fines it may become clear that even every shift is not often enough. In order to properly clean the chip basket, the entire basket needs to be lifted out of the solution stream and dumped upside down over a dumpster. Then the basket needs to be taken somewhere with a floor drain and power sprayed free of all debris that has become entrenched in the filter screen.
If, after a period of time, it looks as though the basket is not becoming clean using this method, then the basket needs to be dipped in an acidic solution for at least a 5-minute period. If your facility does not handle acidic solution, then the baskets can be sent back to Midbrook for this service to be done.
Dirty, clogged, chip baskets that are left non-maintained are the root of the many problems that can lead to a multitude of headaches.
When chip baskets are full, then debris filled water dumps into the tank and sludge fills the tank bottom. This sludge will cover the gas heat immersion tube or the submersible heater elements and act as an insulation layer. When too much insulation builds, then the stress created from keeping this heat from releasing will crack the tube or the element.
Chips not removed by a chip basket are also the cause of pump failure, filter bags needing frequent change outs and nozzles becoming plugged and worn.
